Joe Biden talks to Boris Johnson about a possible trade deal.
The British prime minister was the first European head of government the new US president called. Johnson sympathized with Donald Trump almost to the end.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was the first European head of government to speak to the new US President Joe Biden. “Great to speak to President Joe Biden,” wrote Johnson on Twitter.
A UK government spokesman said Johnson praised Biden’s decision to rejoin the Paris Agreement and the World Health Organization. His predecessor Donald Trump had ordered the resignations. One of the Biden initial actions that had already announced during the election campaign that he would be going back to the international agreements.
“The Prime Minister has reiterated his intention to resolve existing trade problems as soon as possible,” said the spokesman. Johnson had already tried to reach a trade agreement with the US during Trump’s tenure, among other things to offset losses caused by Brexit. However, Johnson had promised the British that he would conclude the trade pact with the United States much sooner than is likely to be the case.
