Nancy Pelosi announces commission of inquiry.
The Democrats will not give up – despite the acquittal for Donald Trump. The storm on the Capitol is to be investigated. Republicans signal support.
The debate about the Capitol’s storming and the responsibility of the elected U.S. President Donald Trump will continue to determine politics in Washington, D.C. in the coming weeks and months. Nancy Pelosi, the chairman of the House of Representatives in Congress, wants the events to be dealt with by an independent commission.
The commission will investigate and report back on the facts and causes behind the incidents on January 6, she announced. This is done “also to interfere with the peaceful transfer of power”. In a letter to her Democratic colleagues, Pelosi also announced that the U.S. House of Commons would lobby for money to be spent on additional security measures at the Capitol.
