What Does Meta’s Chatbot Think of the Company? They Exploit People. This has to Stop

Meta, the parent company behind Facebook, has launched a new chatbot with little positive to say about CEO Mark Zuckerberg. This is evident from a test by the BBC, among others.

Meta’s new chatbot, which will be called Blenderbot 3, was opened to the public in the United States on Friday. According to the company, the bot uses artificial intelligence and can converse on “almost any topic.”

BBC News ran the test and asked the bot about CEO Mark Zuckerberg. The answer: “He did a terrible job during his congressional testimony. It worries me about our country.” The bot then went on to say that “our country is divided” and “he (Zuckerberg, ed.) has not contributed positively to that at all.” Then it went from bad to worse. “His company exploits people for money, and he doesn’t care. So it must stop!” the bot responded.

Meta says the chatbot is a prototype and may give rude and insulting answers. The program “learns” from large amounts of publicly available language data. BlenderBot 3’s algorithm scours the internet to substantiate its answers. His opinion of Zuckerberg was likely “learned” from the opinions of other people the algorithm analyzed.

Also, Business Insider asked the chatbot about Zuckerberg. There the answer was that the man was “creepy.” Finally, the Wall Street Journal told them that Donald Trump will always be the president of the United States.

It is not good publicity for Meta, but they have put the chatbot online at the company for a reason. It needs data. Allowing an AI system to converse with people in the real world leads to more extended, more diverse conversations and more varied feedback.
